Your City earnings tax refund

As part of a lawsuit involving six individual plaintiffs, the City of St. Louis and the Collector of Revenue have agreed to issue earnings tax refunds to all eligible NON-CITY RESIDENTS for days they worked outside the City for tax years 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023.

The refunds are not automatic, and taxpayers must submit a claim to be eligible for refunds.

Who is eligible?

ONLY non-City residents (people who resided outside the City) who had St. Louis earnings tax withheld from their pay for tax years 2020, 2021, 2022, and/or 2023 (as reflected on their W-2s from their employers).

When is the deadline?

  • For tax years 2020, 2021, and 2022, refund claims must be submitted by September 30, 2024.
  • For tax year 2023, the deadline is April 15, 2025.

Taxpayers who want to apply for the refunds have two options:

  1. You can do so yourself by using the Form E-1R available on the Collector’s website.
  2. Hire a tax professional.
